hello dear friends, It's been a busy few months!....

Back in September, Nick and Jean packed their bags and set off to London for the jewellery trade show IJL, held at Earls Court.  It was a busy week for them with an exciting mix of business and social events arranged during their stay.
With much excitement, Nick unveiled the 12 new pieces of jewellery that he had been working so hard making, in the run up to the show.  These were a big hit with our lovely stockists who were busy placing their Christmas orders which are in shops now.  For those of you who haven’t yet seen the recent additions to the collection please take a look at our facebook page ‘New for Christmas’.

Katie escaped the work bench for a few days and journeyed down to London to help with the busiest periods and to demonstrate the new pieces.  On the Sunday evening Nick, Jean, Katie and her Fiancé Adrian met with a group of fellow designer jewellers for a meal at one of Nick and Jeans favourite restaurants – 222 in West Kensington.  Nick and Jean have eaten there many, many times and have always been delighted with the vegetarian and vegan food cooked by international chef Ben Asamani.  Nick and Jean highly recommend 222 and say it’s well worth a visit!   They all had a wonderful evening catching up, especially with the lovely Sophie Robertson who used to work at Nick Hubbard Jewellery.  We’ve never really forgiven her for moving all the way to Brighton (actually we have, but we still miss her very much!)

During their busy social evenings, Nick and Jean caught up with many friends.  Amongst them was their dear friend, historian Alison Weir.  They enjoyed an evening of fine dining at a gastro pub and were excited to hear about her new book ‘Mary Boleyn’ which was published in the U.K. on the 6th October.

The trip also coincided with Jean’s birthday.   Being well prepared,  Nick presented Jean with a handmade birthday card, a Cock a Snook devil, a metal lighthouse and a Bakelite picture viewer for their cabinets of curious at home.

Since the show, Nick has spent a few days with his parents in Norfolk for some well overdue family time.

Nick and Jean have also enjoyed the company of their friend Aya from Japan.  Aya first contacted Nick 15 years ago after she admired his work in Selfridges.  During her visit they visited Jamie Oliver’s restaurant in Birmingham, the antique fair at the rag market and a visit to the Jewellery Quarter to buy some equipment.  Aya is a very skilled jeweller herself and she wanted to spend some time working at the bench with Nick.  Aya helped with the influx of orders from the show and her help was very much appreciated!

So these last few months have been full steam ahead with preparing for IJL and at the bench making Christmas orders.  Nick has also been busy making a few new exciting pieces for the website – which will be uploaded soon – there might also be the appearance of some rings and Nick’s new Precious Collection!

We can’t really believe how quickly time flies – especially when we are working at ‘Brick and Bean’ towers!  If you step inside, you can hear the constant noise of jewellery making.  There is the grate of the file, the swish of the buff stick, the rasp from the piercing saw and the whirr of the burr that Nick uses for hand engraving.  And if you pop in at 11am you will hear the whistle from the kettle and smell the crumpets fresh from the toaster – it’s our favourite time of day!

Heading on into winter, the mornings are becoming cold in the workshop but we have the flame of the soldering torch and the busyness of jewellery making to keep us warm.   We thank you all for loving Nick’s jewellery as much as we do!
With love and best wishes from the ‘Brick and Bean’ team! x
